This is a purple stripe hardneck garlic from the Abruzzo region of Italy. It has a smaller bulb than Viola Francese and Bianco di Piacentina. It grows well and produces very firm and tasty bulbs that are very good either fresh or baked. The bulbs also produce nice scapes in the spring -- harvest the scapes before they unfurl to ensure maximum bulb size, and then sautee the scapes in extra virgin olive oil for a tasty early season garden treat.
