| The King of Kohlrabi! Hardy, reliable, long-lasting, tasty and *huge*, these are my preferred fall/winter kohlrabi cultivar. Planted about 50 plants in August (about 40 of them being directly seeded, the remainder transplants from thinning) and all thrived and produced fine bulbs, the average being about 6" in diameter when harvested. They did extremely well in my medium-heavy soil, with no aid save compost and straw mulch. There were no noticeable diseases and no pest problems that were not easily controlled with Bt and iron phosphate slug bait. They keep well in the garden--- I still have a few nice ones outside as of January 7---and also in the the refrigerator. And even my largest ones had no trace of woodiness. My source for seed was www.jungseed.com. |

| These plants can produce very large bulbs (if harvested late). Difficult to harvest (very tough stems) and difficult to peel and slice. Nice white texture inside with mild flavor, similar to cucumbers. When peeled and sliced, good for dipping. |

| Kossack has done well as a direct-seeded fall planted kohlrabi in north Florida. To me, it seems superior to either Early White Vienna or Kolribi. The taste is fine; it produces large bulbs, and it doesn't get fibrous. |

| I have grown this variety for about 4 seasons and have to say even though I let a few plants get to the size of a pineapple (they tend to get oblong after awhile) they still were tender,crisp and delicious with no woody parts at all. |

| I had a crop through the entire summer and even after they had gotten quite large (such as pictured in the catalogues) none of them were woody and they kept in the refrigerator well. This is the variety I have switched to. |
