Very good even in cool climates. Has the hybrid vigor necessary to grow even when our nights (and days!) are cold. Fruit get much larger and are ready earlier than \"Early Jalapeno\" which is not good in this cool climate. As another reviewer noted the fruit often get an attractive black blush. Branches may break off when heavily loaded so stake or tie-up if worried.

This is my favorite jalapeno that I've grown. It has been consistently abundant and I like the larger fruits that it provides. It is an excellent variety if you like to stuff and wrap jalapenos. I have never seen this pepper ripen to a red color. It usually takes on a dark purple to black color if anything.

Ixtapa is rigorous, large and prolific. Really pours out the peppers which are excellent. Less corking than observed with other cultivars. Heat similar to Jalapeno M. Fruit are prettier and more of them.

This is my favorite jalapeņo since firenza (which I can't find any longer), and it has a delicious jalapeņo flavor, as well as heat (which many have bred out!). It produces well, and the peppers are large - up to 4" - and other large varieties have had less flavor, IMO. Only drawback, which all jalapeņos have for me, and most can ignore this, is that it is susceptible to pepper maggots.
