Small, well-rounded heads, averaging 8" in diameter, with abundant leaves that kept the heads from browning on the fine. Mild, sweet flavor excellent served as a dipper, or steamed. Bolted early as weather got very hot.

We have grown this the past two years in our 4b raised beds. It has performed very well for us. If we crowd them too much, they are smaller. And this year ours were self-blanching, but last year they were more purple - we do not care about the purple but I see that some do. It might be to do with the weather, as this year has been overcast and wet. We have been very happy with Snow Crown. Tastes great roasted and stir-fried. Freezes well. Easy to grow from seed.

My crop of this variety was somewhat discolored with the undersides sometimes being purple. I've heard this is from stress but there are other varieties that handle stress better. I don't agree that it is self-blanching and the heads have to be shielded from the sun.

This variety has been my main cauliflower for as long as I can remember. It appeared years ago in the LA Cooperative Extenstion service as one of the recommended varieties for this area.. Some of the newer hybrid varieties also do quite well and are equivalent in performance. But, I have not found any that I'd rate as better. My first experience growing this variety was planting it in our previous home 400 sq foot garden. The garden was made from a large load of sugar cane wash-off dirt. The Snow Crown cauliflower "flowerettes" were the size of softballs. Note: I'm thinking this is not a "self blanching" variety as the description states... it hasn't been self blanching for me.

No store-bought cauliflower can come close to the right cauliflower grown in your own garden. Forget granular texture and bland taste and enjoy the distinctively nutty buttery taste of Snow Crown. Simply the best tasting cauli I have ever grown.
