Obtained seed from grocery store seed rack for "Portugese Kale". It did not say "beira" on the packet. Packet also stated it was "tronchuda" kale.Started seed indoors, then transplanted 3 plants to the garden. Light green leaves with white veins. It has succulent leaves. The plants were quite large, nearly 3 feet when measured across the top. I like the leaves best when they are picked at about the size of my hand or smaller. The leaves are succulent, but not fibrous or tough at all like some of the other kales. I have several varieties of kale this year and this is my very favorite. I enjoy it raw as well as cooked. It is delicious. Minimal pest problems. This is a no fuss plant. I just planted it, water it occasionally, harvest leaves as I want them. It has thrived from when I planted it in the cool weather and continues to do so in our abnormally hot summer weather. I have decided that this is one of my permanent "keeper" plants, that I will keep planting year after year. I would encourage people to give it a try.
