Tagetes lucida. Open pollinated. Compact tender perennial that reaches about 18 inches tall and wide produces leaves with a sweet licorice flavor that are a substitute for French Tarragon. Edible, golden-yellow flowers bloom all summer. About 80 to 90 days to maturity. Also known as Mexican tarragon.

The seeds supplied by Cornell did not germinate so we ordered more from Johnnys. They germinated and we had a good crop. Not sure of the culinary use, but it had a nice licorice flavor. Lesson learned - pinch them even more than we did so the plants would be more compact. |

Started indoors, transplanted outdoors mid-May. Plants were compact but tended to flop over. Small bright yellow flowers all season. Leaves have strong licorice flavor. |

Germinated well indoors, grew well and kept pinching but flowered early. Nice flavor, pretty flowers and leaves. Floppy stems despite full sun was only downside. |
