USER ENTERED : This is an indeterminate tomato. This tomato is larger than a real grape. Some of mine are over two inches long. The fruit has streaks of gold, green, purple, orange and red. Very beautiful! The tomato starts out purple and gradually develops streaks. Once it has red streaks it is ripe. When fully ripe it is mildly sweet. The only bad quality is that the skin is thick and a bit tough. I transplanted it 20 June. First harvest 20 September. Zone 6-7. Boise, Idaho.

| Brad\'s Atomic Grape is probably my favorite tomato (but only when grafted to a vigorous rootstock). It\'s not a grape tomato, though. It\'s more like a small plum with a point. I\'ve been growing them for three years. In my hands they benefit tremendously from grafting (I had great success with Submarine rootstock from Territorial seed but not much luck with Estamino). The non-grafted plants are very wispy and small (typical for this variety), but grafted plants are a completely different beast. They exhibit very vigorous growth and are incredibly productive. Figuring out when the tomatoes are ready takes a little experience. They start out purple and ripen to green with orange/red/yellow streaks. They are still quite firm when ripe. The flavor is excellent and they make fantastic dried tomatoes (I quarter them first). If I could grow only one tomato, this would probably be it. In my hands, they take quite a while to mature on the vine. My ratings are based on grafted plants. |
