'Apache' Lettuce

Description: USER ENTERED : Beautiful deep purple (very dark red), loose leaf. This is the darkest colored lettuce I have ever grown. It is quite sweet and delicious, mild tasting until mature when it bitters. It is slow to bolt. It is an easy grower. Looks/tastes great in the salad bowl! I plant this every year as it is one of my favorites. I have heard it can be more finicky to start than some other varieties in very cool or very warm weather. I'm in the Pacific Northwest, moderate climate and have never had an issue at all with starting it.

I have had this in my garden for 3 years now, and will continue planting it each year. Mild/sweet, easy to grow, beautiful very dark leaves. Other than slugs, haven\'t had any pest problems with it. Some of my lettuces did not survive the slugs this year, this one did.
