Robin\'s Kojinut Squash An F1 hybrid, (110 days), developed by Michael Mazourek at Row 7 Seeds, classified as a Moschata type squash, it is prolific and exceptionally sweet and tasty with smooth texture and edible skin. A ribbed squash approximately 6” in diameter, 2-4 lbs. Moderate length vines, 7-10\' long. Started indoors under lights in zone 5 for about 4 weeks, I put in 2 plants about 4 feet apart. I saw squash bugs late in the season, but they did not affect the plants adversely. Harvest as fruit ripen for optimal yield and quality. I harvested 40 fruits from 2 plants in 10x10 area, though the vines spread 5 or 6 feet outside the bed. An excellent feature is that the fruit turn from green to bronze on the vine; they are ready to pick when green is nearly gone. The fruit store well. My last were harvested around Oct. 10 and we are still eating them in late January. I expect they will last another month, maybe to March 1st. The seeds are toastable, but I did not find them very flavorful. |
