An amazing cold hearty green. We grew it in a low-tunnel throughout the winter. This green loves cool temperatures! Tender, tasty leaves. It bolted once the temperatures warmed in the Spring.

Nice little weed. We plant this late in the fall for over-wintering under hoop-houses. It is often flowering already when we remove the covers in the spring. Fortunately, the flowers are perfectly edible. This tastes remarkably like a middle-of-the-road lettuce, although the texture is quite different, thick and succulent. I find it needs to be picked fresh. It does not keep all that well. Small enough that the best way to pick it is to give it a haircut with a pair of scissors. It gets a bit grassy-tasting as the weather warms up but by that time there are more interesting greens producing and we pull this up. It comes up very easily. There is nothing else so early though, so it is a real spring treat. Likely to seed around, especially if it gets a damp and cool spot.

A cute novelty but not so great in yield or taste.

Reseeds readily. Not strong-flavored, but still makes a nice addition to salads.
