This is a thick-leaved, dark green savoyed spinach with a fine, slightly astringent flavour. I have found it the same to grow as every spinach I have tried, hybrid or open pollinated: fussy! They all bolt at the approach of summer solstice. Best way to get around this is to plant in the late summer or early fall, and over winter under a hoop house. The hoop house is removed early in the spring. I have also overwintered it without cover, but it will be at least a month to 6 weeks behind the spinach in the hoop house. Which is a month or 6 weeks of lost harvest because believe me, they will both bolt as the days lengthen in June. |

Light green color leaves, average taste, no aroma. It also needs big amount of wood ash to make the soil sweet. It's not the best spinach variety. |

A great deep green big-leafed spinach that keeps well in the frig. It needs cool soil to germinate so replant in two weeks if it doesn't sprout in the fall. I will always have some of this in my garden. In the southern zones it will generally over-winter with little or no protection. |

Always reliable, measured side by side against several other varieties (Space, Melody, Spargo) in the four years I've been growing it. The summer heat has been so variable in recent years that I can't/don't really count the heat tolerance/bolting factor, I just keep seeding through the season (at times, it's bolted earlier than others, at times later). Usually has an stronger, earthier flavor than others, which is a plus to me, but not to everyone's taste. |

Germinates well in cool soil, which is problem for me, because it does not germinate well in warm soil. Tricky to get it started for a fall crop. This is one crop where northern growers have a big advantage. Once I get it started it grows well in November and December. |

Very reliable, good germination, nice meaty leaves with a good flavor, raw or cooked. Was not bothered by any insects or diseases except for a little flea beetle damage. The groundhogs ate a bit too. I'd grow this again. I"m letting it flower and go to seed so I can save the seeds. I think this would be a good spinach for a first-time grower. I plan to grow a fall crop for processing (freezing). |

I have never grown any other variety of spinach because this one has always worked so well for me. I love the baby leaves early spring and fall, but the big leaves are just as delicious and tender. Here in my Indiana garden where the soil is clay and cool, the leaves are dark green. Never bothered by pests. Have some overwintering right now and they are still lovely and edible. |

Bolts a week sooner than newer hibrids, less intense green in sandy soil in rainy springs, but allows seed saving. |

This Spinach grew well from the seed, and transplanted well into new spots when your sprouts... tasty, and few pests. |

Good germination but quick to bolt. We do have a good looking fall crop on the way that will out perform the spring planting. |
