| I am a first time potato grower and didn't know what to expect. I had to amend the soil in the spring but after that the plants were low maintainance. From 2.5 lb of seed potato I harvested 28 lbs. I love the taste. The Viking Purple works well with every form of preparation, including french fried and hash browns. |

| Excellent yeilds of huge potatoes which was great for a longtime hick food snob and first time grower. Excellent flavor with a touch of sweetness that makes it very interesting. Don't worry, it's not sweet potato sweetness, but a real subtle sweet that pairs really well with leaks or sweet onions. Makes really good oven fries as long as you don't cut them too thin. And mashed purple vikings with sauteed leeks is one of the best mashed potatoes I have ever eaten. |

| I will start with the bad thing first. This potatoe was hard to digest for people with certain food allergies.
Now the good news. Viking produces lots of big potatoes so much I felt like yelling jackpot on each hill. It did this without watering and only weeding. The plants are nice sized and show no problems with disease which is typical for the more hybridized potatoes. Flavor is not too earthy and kind of potatoe bland with a slight watery character.
Viking is not purple, but red skinned |
