| Surprise. This cultivar does very well here. I did not remember them fondly from my early years in Virginia but here they taste good and yield several crops. Maybe they just like to grow in the wintertime. |

| These are an old variety. As described, they are not super sweet. They were bred to sprout in cool weather, as the name implies. Pick at a young age for fresh peas. We let them go a bit, so I blanched and froze these as "starchy peas." Still good in soups and stews. We think they actually improve with freezing. Easy to grow, our only problem was a bit of rabbit or groundhog grazing. Best grown on a short trellis. My yeilds were pretty good in 2006, but these were not quite as flavorful as I would like. |
