Please be aware that while Atlantic remains one of the most well-regarded and most well-recognized chipping potatoes in North America, indeed, it is often used as the standard reference variety against which new chipping varieties are compared, it does have its problems. That is, Atlantic is very susceptible to internal heat necrosis, it is susceptible to hollow heart and brown center. It does not like rough handling. Breeders have been working for years to duplicate the favorable characteristics of Atlantic, while eliminating its propensity for internal heat necrosis. Due to its high specific gravity, it is not a particularly good selection for fresh market or tablestock purposes. Gardeners ought to steer away from this variety unless they are looking for a potato from which to make potato chips and nothing else.
